History

The Sapphire Stakes began as a listed race and gained its Group 3 status in 2002, when Fair Embrace set the race record winning in a time of 1:09.2. Another notable winner is Spinning Hill who managed two consecutive wins at the Sapphire in 2000 and 2001.
